Revolutionary solution for advertising engagement proves success with NFL

TAMPA, Fla. – While many people are hopeful that 2020 will pass quickly, Tampa company React, LLC has been celebrating victories week after week while giving away more than $30,000 in gift cards and prizes over the past five weeks.

React has been testing their new approach and solution to an issue which has plagued advertisers for centuries – getting audiences to actually pay attention and engage with their ads and messaging.

“We looked at the problem first and then we reverse engineered it,” said Frank Maggio, CEO of React. “Rather than bait-and-switch, which is typical when people are attracted with content and then distracted with an ad, we decided instead to reward the audience for engaging with the ads and incentivizing them for reviewing the ads.”

In order to accomplish this, React created a live game show application for smartphones, which syncs with content the player is already watching.

“For example, we started with NFL pro football games, but our approach can and will be rolled out across many sports and other forms of content,” said Maggio. “We took the classic game played at football-related gatherings, called ‘squares,’ and made an app called Super Squares. We then incorporated gamified commercials and a live game show format as a way to earn the Super Squares, which allows players the opportunity to win real money.”

Unlike traditional squares, there is no cost to play Super Squares, and players can still win significant prizes. In fact, more than $240,000 is currently up for grabs over the 8-week rollout, with greater prizes slated later in the season.

Users play the Super Squares app five times over the course of a live football game, in brief 3-minute Game Breaks before the game and at the end of each quarter. Users watching or streaming live football earn points by matching their Super Square to the score each quarter, and earn extra points by answering quiz show questions about the game they are watching and the brands that sponsor the app.  Additionally, players earn tie–breaker points by predicting the outcome of the game.

“So far, the response has been incredible,” said Maggio. “By rewarding our audience, they’re not only willing to watch our clients’ commercials, but they’re actually eager to view them, rate them and answer questions about them.”

According to Maggio, React provides advertisers with reporting on their ads and how they were perceived by viewers at no additional cost.

“It’s not only a great advertising platform, it’s a great way to test advertising,” said Maggio. “We can provide information like census-level demographics, message retention, sentiment about the brand and commercial, how these players feel the second and third time they saw the ad, and if their opinion changed. It’s like a focus group on steroids at a fraction of the cost.”
